ENGINEER / ATHLETE / ADVENTURER

HOW I ENDED UP HERE

Originally from New Brunswick, Canada, I came to the United States to pursue ski racing at Burke Mountain Academy in East Burke, VT.

I attended BMA from tenth grade through graduation and chose to take a post-graduate year to compete full-time prior to attending college.

At Dartmouth, I was a member of the Alpine Ski Team for five years and, due to an injury in my third year, have competed for Dartmouth for four seasons. I completed my final season with Dartmouth in March 2017.

For the last six years I've been working as a mechanical design engineer and am currently working for Mikron Automation in Englewood, CO the last two.

I currently live with my wife in Boston, MA and we're excited to be back east and closer to family.

Product Development

Over my carrer as a design engineer I've had the opportunity to work closely with clients in the life sciences, medical, consumer good, and automation industries. I've learned an enormous amount from my fellow engineers and have had the fortune of working through a variety of engineering challenges. Our clients are on the cutting edge of their respective fields and there is more to learn every day.

As a mechanical engineer in product development I've leveraged my machine shop and mechanical design experience to develop efficient and robust product designs, test fixtures, and validation mechanisms. I use our CNC mills, laser cutters, rapid prototype machines, and general shop equipment to produce and validate solutions for our clients.

Currently, I am working with customers to implement design, fabricate, and test high-speed precision automation equipment. We work closely with the electrical and software teams to ensure that our designs work together flawlessly for the most efficient and robust systems.

Throughout my career I've worked extensively with multiple CAD programs (Solidworks, Inventor, OnShape, Fusion360) and their associated analysis and fabrication tools. I've work constantly alongside engineers across all disciplines, with mechanical and electrical technicians, and with supply chain, procurement, operations, and compliance groups.

ENGINEERING AT THAYER

At the Thayer School of Engineering, I had the opportunity to work on a number of fascinating projects with an incredible team of professors, TAs, and students with expertise across all engineering concentrations.

In course projects, I've worked on every stage of the process from initial design, to prototyping and analyses, to final construction and implementation. At no point at Thayer do students hand off work, such as machining or testing, to TAs or professors.

Thayer encourages students to learn and work in a variety of engineering disciplines. This has allowed me to take courses and work on projects in electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering. I've also been able to take courses like mechatronics that study the intersection of multiple disciplines: mechanical, electrical, and systems and controls.

Furthermore, Thayer heavily emphasizes team work and hands on learning. I've worked with fellow engineering students on all of my major projects and held the Project Manager position for my capstone project course.

A LOVE OF THE OUTDOORS

I have been fortunate to live an active life in the outdoors year-round. Growing up I played a number of different sports (skiing, basketball, box lacrosse, hockey, soccer, rowing, water skiing, mountain biking) and have always loved challenge in sport, adventure, and academics.

The highlight of my summers recently have been canoe, hiking, and camping trips throughout New England, the Canadian Maritimes, and in the Canadian Rockies. I've driven across Canada from the east coast to the west coast and back, and travelled to South America, Europe, and all over North America for competitions.

At Dartmouth in 2016 I hiked 50 miles in thirty hours from campus to the school's Moosilauke Ravine Lodge, participated in the Prouty century ride, led a first year hiking trip, and spent weekends hiking the white mountains and canoeing on the Connecticut River.

In August 2017 I spent two weeks in Nepal trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp at 13,550ft above sea level. I then was able to ski in Utah and in 2018 I ran the Boston Marathon and raised over $8,500 for BuildOn.
